First Appointment

What to Expect During Your Initial Consultation

1. Registration & Vision Testing

Arrive 10 minutes prior to scheduled slot. Our optometrists record vital history, current spectacles, and perform computerized auto-refraction.

2. Pupillary Dilation (30-40 mins)

Diagnostic drops enlarge your pupils so the ophthalmologist can examine your crystalline lens, vitreous, retina, and optic nerve thoroughly.

3. Specialist Examination & Plan

Your consultant evaluates findings on the slit lamp, explains your diagnosis with transparency, and discusses options or counseling.

Pupil Dilation Notice:

Dilating eye drops cause temporary blurred reading vision and light sensitivity for 3 to 4 hours. We strongly advise patients not to drive immediately following a dilated checkup. Please bring sunglasses and arrange an accompanying family member.

No referral letter is required. You can schedule a direct consultation with any of our consultant ophthalmologists or sub-specialists for routine checks, second opinions, or surgical evaluations.
General & Appointments

Will my eyes be dilated during my first checkup?

In most comprehensive examinations, eye-dilating drops are medically necessary to examine the interior retina and optic nerve. These drops temporarily blur near reading vision and increase light sensitivity for 3 to 4 hours. We recommend bringing sunglasses and arranging for someone else to drive you home.
Cataract & Surgery

Is modern cataract surgery safe and sutureless?

Yes. At Vijaya Eye Hospital, cataract microsurgery is performed using micro-incision phacoemulsification (MICS). Through a tiny 2.2mm self-sealing corneal incision, the cloudy lens is liquefied and aspirated, followed by insertion of a foldable intraocular lens (IOL). No sutures or stitches are required in routine procedures.
Cataract & Surgery

How do I choose between Monofocal, Toric, and Multifocal IOLs?

Your lens selection depends on your eye measurements, corneal astigmatism, retinal health, and lifestyle visual goals. Monofocal lenses provide crisp distance vision with reading glasses needed for near tasks. Toric lenses neutralize astigmatism. Multifocal and EDOF lenses provide freedom from spectacles across multiple distances. Our surgeons guide you through personalized biometry results.
Cataract & Surgery

Is cataract surgery done as an outpatient day-care procedure?

Yes. Cataract surgery is a day-care procedure. Patients arrive approximately 1 hour before surgery for preparation and return home comfortably the same afternoon.

Which health insurance policies and TPAs are accepted for cashless eye surgery?

Vijaya Eye Hospital supports cashless Mediclaim across leading private insurers and public PSUs—including Star Health, ICICI Lombard, HDFC ERGO, Niva Bupa, Bajaj Allianz, United India, National Insurance, New India, Oriental Insurance, and TPAs such as FHPL, Paramount, Medi Assist, and MDIndia.

When should I submit my insurance documents for cashless pre-authorization?

For planned elective surgeries like cataract or vitrectomy, please submit your insurance e-card, policy document, and photo ID at our insurance desk at least 48 to 72 hours before your scheduled surgery date to ensure smooth pre-approval from your TPA.
Eye Care & Recovery

Can I wash my face or take a head bath after eye surgery?

You should strictly avoid splashing tap water into the operated eye and avoid head baths for the first 7 to 10 days following surgery. You may sponge your face and take neck-down showers. Always protect the eye from unsterilized water and accidental rubbing.

When can I resume reading, watching television, and using mobile phones?

You can watch television and use mobile screens in moderation 24 to 48 hours after cataract surgery, provided your eyes feel comfortable and you do not experience excessive strain or glare. Use prescribed lubricating drops as recommended.
